Sport at Kelsall 2023 - 2024

Together Eveyone Achieves More

Curriculum

At Kelsall, we provide children with a varied curriculum in PE that covers games (invasion, striking and fielding and net), dance, gymnastics, athletics, swimming (Year 4,5 & 6) and outdoor/adventure activities. During these sessions, children learn and practice a range of skills and have the opportunity to apply them. Children also work on tactics and supporting/ leading others to work as a team effectively.

This year, we have our brand new MUGA (Multi-use Games Area). A MUGA pitch is a sports surface which is suitable for multiple different activities and has a metal cage around. Our MUGA is designed to provide optimal playing properties and protection against injuries. Now that Kelsall has his new area, it will allow staff to teach high quality lessons all year round as it is comprehensively weatherproof.

Sports Champions

Our year 6 Sports Champions this year are

TBC. They will be organising various sporting events for all classes as the year goes on. If children have any suggestions for sports around school, please can they speak to our 6 Champions.

A message from the Sports Champtions -

'Every Friday, around 12:15, the Y6 sports champions will host a 10-20 minute sports event on the far side of the big field. Each Key stage will have their turn every other week, and pupils that have shown outstanding skills will be mentioned in assembly the same day.

As Sports Champions, we are trying to get children involved in different sports that they would have otherwise never wanted to play. For these sporting activities, there is no cost and children do not have to participate if they do not wish to.

We hope to see lots of you there.'

Cross Country

Below you will find dates for all the cross country tournaments this year. The cross country competitions are always great fun and we encourage as many children as possible to participate in them. If your child is interested in participating please keep these dates in mind. Further information about them will be sent nearer the time.

Competitions

We also enter various competitions throughout the year and provide opportunities for many children across Key Stages 1 and 2 to take part in competitive sport. Later on in the year, some reception children have the chance to take part in a tournament too. We encourage all children to use this opportunity to try different sports.
