Pupil Premium Statement
The Government provides the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG), which is additional to main school funding,?to address the current underlying inequalities between children who are disadvantaged due to identified factors and those who are not. It is intended to?ensure that a set amount of?additional funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
Factors are
- registration for free school meals (FSM), either now or in the previous 6 years
- looked after children, who are in the care of an English local authority
- children who have ceased to be looked after by a local authority because of adoption, a special guardianship order or child arrangements order
- children of Services personnel
At Kelsall Primary and Nursery School, we are committed to ensuring that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils, particularly those who are vulnerable or socially disadvantaged. The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is used to ensure that eligible pupils receive the support they need to make strong progress and achieve well across the curriculum.
Progress is carefully and regularly tracked by senior leaders, with high expectations that all pupils — including those eligible for PPG — will achieve their potential in English and Maths. Where progress slows or barriers to learning are identified, targeted support and high-quality teaching strategies are implemented to help pupils catch up and thrive.

Supporting Disadvantaged Pupils
At Kelsall Primary and Nursery School, we recognise that some of our more vulnerable pupils may face social or emotional challenges that can affect their readiness to learn. We use the Pupil Premium Grant to provide both academic and emotional support, helping pupils to build confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes to learning.
Our Learning Mentor works closely with teachers, support staff and families to identify and respond to individual needs. This joined-up approach ensures that disadvantaged pupils are supported to make
Supporting Curricular and Extra-curricular activities
In order to narrow the gap for our PPG children, it is important that they have access to the same extra-curricular activities as the rest of their cohort. Pupil Premium is therefore used to subsidise extra-curricular activities for those pupils who qualify for Free School Meals. Please see our Pupil Premium Strategy for furhter details.
Is your child eligible for the Pupil Premium?
All children who currently qualify for free school meals based on their family circumstances are entitled to pupil premium. This applies if you receive any of the following benefits:

Income Support
-
Income Based Jobseekers Allowance

Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
-
Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190
-
The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
-
Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
-
Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who are or have been in care, and children who have a parent who is or was in the armed forces, are also entitled to pupil premium. We rely on parents sharing this information with us when they join our school, for the grant to be claimed for your child.
In addition, pupils who have qualified for free school meals on the above grounds in the past, but are no longer eligible, continue to receive pupil premium for the next six years. If you join our school and this applies to you, please inform the office. If your child qualifies for free school meals or has at any point in the past six years, it’s important that you tell school – even if they're in Reception or KS1 and receive universal school meals for infant pupils, or are in KS2 and take a packed lunch – as this enables them to claim pupil premium.
Schools are responsible for recording the children who are eligible for pupil premium in their annual school census – you don't have to do anything once school has been informed, other than making sure you return any paperwork that relates to the benefits you receive or your child's entitlement to free school meals.
