Maple

Maple class have been very busy on their learning journey this half term...

We have been looking at various African folktales such as 'Tortoise's Dream', 'Anansi and the story thief' and 'The hut that grew'. Children have really enjoyed engaging with these stories through drama, discussion, presentations and writing their own reviews. Children have now created their own interesting versions of 'Tortoise's dream' using a checklist to show off their new learning.

We have used the book 'If the world were a village' to encourage our thinking about who we share planet earth with. Children have raised many questions and have embraced our learning about the global village.

Children are in the process of creating their own globe. Eventually, they will use their 3D structures to position continents and locate Morocco. This has been linked to learning in ICT because children have learnt various new skills on Microsoft Word, to use when typing sentences.

Photographs of the finished globes will be coming soon!

Throughout this term, we will be focusing on a photograph taken by Yann Arthus Bertrand from above. This photograph has been taken above a village in the high atlas mountains of Morocco. As a result, Maple class will learn about Morocco and think about the lives of people who live there. In addition, we will walk around our village, Kelsall, and draw comparisons to the photograph.
