Welcome to Year 6!
It is so lovely to have all of the children back after a strange end to last year and I have been so impressed with the way the children have come back to school and the way they have all settled in so brilliantly!
We are now at the start of the year 6s final year at Primary School and although there may be some changes to some of the usual 'year 6' activities, we aim to make this year as special and memorable as usual.
This year, the children’s learning will revolve around a selection of fantastic books, which cover a range of themes from Black Lives Matter, to World War 2, to evolution and endangered animals. All of our literacy, STEAM and Topic lessons will be taught through these books.
Our first texts this term are 'Of Thee I Sing' by Barack Obama and 'Young, Gifted and Black', and we will use these to learn about some amazing Black Heroes and Figures through history. Please see the curriculum map below for more information on what we will be covering this term.
If you have anything that you feel could help with our topic then please let us know.
For any more information, please find the year 6 Fact File and curriculum map attached. I have also attached the KS2 common exception word spellings for children to practise alongside their usual spelling homework.
