Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and are now ready for this very busy term ahead of us.

We had a brilliant first term learning all about The African-American slave trade to begin with, before moving on to study WW2, and ending the term with their spectacular Christmas performance of 'Archibald's War."

This term we will be continuing our 'Little People, Big Dreams' topic by looking at and studying the life and works of Charles Darwin. Through literacy, topic, science and so much more we will learn all about evolution, adaptation, South America and the Galapagos islands. To enrich our learning on this topic, we will also be visiting Chester Zoo to take part in their evolution and adaptation workshops. Please see the curriculum map below for more information on what we will be covering this term.

If you have anything that you feel could help with our topic or if you feel you could help out in school, please do get in touch…we love to have visitors!

This is going to be a very busy term, especially with the lead up to the KS2 SATs. Miss Creek will be running a SATs club every Friday morning from 8am, for any children who would like to attend. Homework will be set weekly: for maths, children are to complete the Mathletics activities, for English children will need to practise their spellings which are on the webpage and will be given extra SPaG activities each week too. Children also need to be reading as regularly as possible and filling in their reading journals.

Although there is lots of preparation taking place for the SATs this term, we will be building in a range of ‘chill out’ activities to ensure the children have a break. There will be continued work with the oak class buddies throughout the term as well as a range of trips and activities. In addition to our Chester Zoo visit, we have lots of other exciting things coming up, including our next High School transition day, Bikeability, STEAM challenges and preparing for our AmaSing concert.
