Year 5 - Willow 2017 - 2018
Welcome to Willow Class
Teachers: Mrs R Oakley and Mr J Clayton (Wednesday)
Associate teacher: Mr D Hayden
Teaching Assistant: Mrs J Dutton
Spring term is here! Already we have learnt a lot about Emperor Penguins and how they survive in the harsh conditions of Antarctica. We were amazed to discover that they travel 70 miles to the same breeding place each year and that they choose the coldest time of year to have their chick! We have used our learning to write explanation texts, poems and stories. In literacy, we have enjoyed learning about adding parentheses using dashes, brackets or commas. Year 5's challenge is to use these punctuation marks to create an effect. Who can use dashes to add emphasis?
Our padlet adventures, class blog and use of QR codes is very exciting and some year 5s are choosing to do extra learning at home!
Throughout Spring term 2 we are going to be looking at fairy tales. More specifically, we will be discussing the gender inequality that most fairly tales have. I know that year 5 are very interested in this, so we will be learning about the Suffragettes and discussing what actions they took to be heard over 100 years ago.
This is just a small taster of what we will be covering and of course... we may delve into other areas depending on where our interests take us.
