Year 5 - Willow 2017 - 2018

Welcome to Willow Class

Teachers: Mrs R Oakley and Mr J Clayton (Wednesday)

Teaching Assistant: Mrs J Dutton

Autumn term is here! I hope you have had a restful and exciting Summer break. I will look forward to seeing you all on Thursday and hearing all about your holiday highlights!

We have a very exciting term ahead in Willow Class. Our theme for this year is 'Survivors' and we will be using the text by David Long. This book is full of true stories about people who have faced some amazing challenges.  We will be learning about many inspirational people this term and their different adventures. Throughout Autumn term, we will focus on Antartica and learn about the Heroic Age of Exploration. We will look at primary sources such as diary entries and photographs of Ernest Shackleton to learn about his famous adventure. To begin with, we will use Michael Morpurgo's book 'Snow Tales'. We will be linking our Science topic 'Earth and Space' with our theme, by learning about Apollo 13. Our art work will inspire our learning in this area as we will use and develop a range of techniques to create images of planets and astronauts.

This is just a small taster of what we will be covering and of course... we may delve into other areas depending on where our interests take us.
