Year 5 - Willow 2017 - 2018

Welcome to Willow Class

Teachers: Mrs R Oakley and Mr J Clayton (Wednesday)

Associate teacher: Mr D Hayden

Teaching Assistant: Mrs J Dutton

Summer term is here! The children have been very excited to discover our new focus for this term, which is how we can look after our environment in order to sustain it. We will be focusing on whales and the impact that plastic is having on them. I know that children are very keen to explore this and want to do something about it!

Year 5 loved the Big Blue Whale by Nicola Davies and have already found lots of information about whales. We were shocked to discover that we should have 20 whales for every one that is in the sea today. We will explore why whales are now protected and why the numbers are so low. We will be writing persuasive letters and posters, engaging in discussion verbally and in writing and creating our own information texts.

We will be using a range of text to inspire our learning: Big Blue Whale and The Promise by Nichola Davies and This morning I met a whale and Why the whales came by Michael Morpurgo.

This is just a small taster of what we will be covering and of course... we may delve into other areas depending on where our interests take us.
