Welcome to Maple Class!

We're back to it after a busy spring term! It was a fantastic term with lots of great learning and exciting opportunities- Tattenhall Residential being a highlight!

Our theme this year will be Survivors, which will be broken down into three main aspects: HUMAN survival in the first term, ANIMAL survival after Christmas and then the survival of the PLANET in the summer term. We have also chosen to look at books from the author Michael Morpurgo and poems from Adrien Mitchell.

This half term we will begin by looking at 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies, which will make us think about the world around us and the impact humans are having on the environment. To start with we will use the book to inspire us to write our own poems about our landscape using some of the lovely descriptive language from the book. In our science, we will plant our own 'promise seeds' to realise how important pollinators like the honey bees are to the planet and to discuss how we could have a postitive impact on our environment by making our own pollinator houses for the garden. After half term, we will delve deeper into the impact of humans on the world by looking at the changes in the book 'Window'  and looking back to the changes that occured during the Industrial Revolution and Victorian era. This will help us understand the changes that are occuring to the natural world today such as climate change and plastic pollution.

Don't forget - we also have our poetry competition this week and I know Maple Class can't wait to share their brilliant poetry performances!

All of our learning will be focused around this theme. Take a look at our topic web to find out more information about the learning opportunities we have planned for this term.

You will also find our spelling homework lists and other useful information attached to our class page.

If you have any resources or information you feel would be relevant to our topic, we would love for you to pop in and share in our 'love for learning'.
