Year 1 - Beech 2019 - 2020

Class Teachers: Mrs Dia, Mrs Smith and Mrs White

Welcome to Spring Term in Beech Class :-)

The Lion Inside by Rachel Bright is our first key text and it takes us to the African savannah.  Inspiration too will come from the Little People: David Attenborough and Jane Goodall, and from the animals and zoo rangers of Chester Zoo.  In keeping with the theme our science focus is on animals including humans, and in PSHE sessions we will be looking for the lion and the mouse that the author says we all have inside!  We will use maps and globes to locate Africa and learn the names of the seven continents and the five oceans.

The second half term has a history focus and we shall be calling on families to share their memories and show their old photos, toys, records, household objects to their children/grandchildren/great grandchildren.  Ellie Hattie's wonderful book The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth takes us on a museum adventure, and we intend on a literal museum visit too where will explore exhibits that tell us about the history of Chester, and see how we can create our own exhibits.

To know more about our subject planning see the Spring Curriculum Map file.

Please note:  PE is now Wednesday morning  but please leave kit at school week as we will sometimes have an extra session.

Help us in our quest to provide a Love For Learning!  We invite you to share any information, expertise or resources you feel are relevant to our topic.  Come in and join us!
